Abi
According to the 1901 census George and Jane had just 4 children
All of them with the exception of Jessie, appear on the 1911 census with George and his 2nd wife.
At this stage, the youngest child from the first marriage was already 14 yrs old.

This means that if any the children were sent to Scotland, they must have been returned to their father before 1911.
It is unlikely that they were sent after 1911 as they would be too old to be placed in care

I'll be getting Jenney's death certificate this weekend, but don't think it will be of much help. George remarried quite quickly, as he sent my grandmother and her siblings to Scotland to be looked after by their aunts who treated them very badly and put them in an orphanage. I was told that it was Aberdeen that they were from, so it may be that they weren't married or as someone suggested, they married abroad.

I noticed quite a few trees on Ancestry with this census added to George Wm Jacques and Jane Douglas
According to these, George remarried in 1902?
As there is no marriage for George Wm Jacques and Jane Douglas in Scotland, nor did anyone seem to find a death for Jane ( I checked, none in Scotland)
I wonder how everyone come to the same conclusion that Jane was from Aberdeen?
Also, I cannot find anyone from the 1901 census.... in 1911
Presumably if George was now married to Annie, they would show up somewhere
Do you know where they were?

Thanks for the help - it's interesting about the railway guard occupation because I know my gt grandfather George Jacques worked on the GWR. However I know in 1894 that George and Jenney were living in Oxfordshire as that's where my gt uncle was born and that's where George himself was originally from.

Hi Abi and Catherine,
The family selected on the 1891 and 1901 return appear to be George Jack and Jeanie Simpson who married in Airdrie, Lanarkshire in 1889

Abi,
As Shirley has already explained, Scotlands People is the site for Scottish BDMs.
However, the site can be manipulated simply to check that the record exists.
I checked, and between 1890 and 1905, there was only one man called George Jacques who married in Scotland.
This marriage took place in Glasgow (Blackfriars) in 1897 and his wife was called Agnes Derrix or Adam ( probably a widow).

I also looked for alternative, possible variant spellings on both Jacques and Duglas... There is no marriage.

You need Scotlands People website which isnt a subs site. You have to buy units to view the info But you can look at the marriage record online for that time at the cost of 5 units,

Its a very reasonably priced site

Could anyone with access to Scottish records try and find a marriage certificate for Jenney Duglas in 1891 in Aberdeen please? She was born in 1867/8 and was married to George Jacques, many thanks.
