Also if anyone else is looking....
Patrick and Peter are interchangeable names.
Many men used both versions and although found as Patrick in 1861, could be entered as Peter on any other census year.

Hi there,

My relative Patrick McCabe (c. 1839-1898) married his wife Alice McClusky (c. 1841-1906) in 1861 in Darlington, County Durham, England.

His father was Sylvester McCabe and her father was Thomas McClusky.

Now I SUSPECT that Patrick may be shown in the 1861 census as Pat. McCabe, an unmarried man aged 25 (born c. 1836), loding with three other Irish men (all born Ireland), in the house of Hugh Ward and his family. The house was at Conside and Knitsley in County Durham. The lodgers all worked as labourers in the tin works. However, two of this Patrick's fellow lodgers were Pat. Clusky aged 40 (born c. 1821) and Henry Clusky aged 35 (born c. 1826).

Could these two 'CLUSKY' men be relations of Alice McClusky, and possibly be how Patrick and Alice met? I have heard that 'Mc' was often dropped from Irish names in an attempt to avoid Irish prejudice.

Can anyone try and spot Patrick Clusky an Henry Clusky in the 1871 census and beyond? I am ideally looking to find a birthplace parish, but to see what became of them would also be lovely.

Thank you,

Peter
