Find Ancestors

Hi there,

Could anyone out there be able to do a 1911 search for me? My Grandfather seemed to have had itchy feet and has been impossible to trace! His name was Walter Henry Sawrey, born in 1890, Plympton, parents being Joseph (c1851) and Mary Sawrey (c1852). I haven't been able to find him on any of the census', but his parents did immigrate to Mexico, but as far as I know, they left their son, Walter, behind. I do know he fought in WW1, and later went on to marry in 1921, Oxford, only to walk out on his young family a few years later.

I don't have access to the 1911 census, but I just thought i'd take a stab in the dark and try my luck! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone see him in the 1901? I haven't been able to find him, we're not sure if he was perhaps adopted, and hence listed under a different surname? He's a bit of black sheep in the family!

Yep that's the one, his father, John Sawrey, was a Land Surveyor and engineer, which presumably required a lot of moving about. His other children were born in Scotland, Nottingham and Bolton Le Sands. The family was originally from Lancashire, but i'm not too sure what the family were up to in Mexico! Walter later went onto change his name to Fred Wilson, and no one quite knows what went on to this day :-\

Do you mean John sawrey? For i know him and his wife, Elizabeth Sawrey, nee Hewitt were divorced :)

oh wow! i hadn't come across that before..... 1883... but Walter was born in 1890..... Oh dear.... Any idea as to what may have happened??!
