I hit a brickwall a couple of years ago with my Irish ancestors. I ended up paying a researcher in Ireland, which got me back two generations. It cost me about 40 pounds but it was worth it to me, as I'd exhausted all other avenues including the great people on Genes. I would give Genes a chance first but give all the info you have, it's amazing what they come up with.

Thank you both for your replies.
I have researched as much as I can from New Zealand.
William Boyce born about 1798 at Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. He married Catherine McKnight at Saul parish, downpatrick, county down, northern ireland 29/8/1815.
I have traced the line back to me.
My father always said that the Boyce's were chased out of France to Scotland but I have found nothing to support this.
Many thanks again for your interest.
Neil Boyce :-)

I am wondering if it is worth employing someone to search parish records for birth information in Downpatrick.Ireland.The year would be 1798
