Looking for the parent's of Mary Elizabeth Smith born abt 1900 Derby Derbyshire.
On the 1901 England Census Mary is given as a nurse child staying at the residence of Charles and Ellen ( Helen) Kent. Ellen's maiden name could be Milward / Nellwood/ Nillwood.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information and yes that is the name of my tree on ancestry. I was thinking, that Mary could be a child born to a relative of Charles & Ellen Kent, but haven't found anything to say this.
Ellen's maiden name must be Milward. I guess i will have to sent for the original birth certificate of the Mary Elizabeth Smith, Baptism / Christening 1901, at St Michaels Church, Derby Derbyshire.

I don't have a Joseph Charles Kent in my tree. My connection with Kent is the marriage of Mary Elizabeth Smith to Peter Downie Leeds.
I see your researching Thomas Turnbull, was he born in Scotland ?

It looks as though Mary Elizabeth went to Canada in 1913 ................. that means she was only 13


She would not have travelled by herself at the point.



Have you managed to find out whether she went with other members of the Kent family, or as a "home child"?

Mary came to Toronto, Ontario with Ellen Kent & Ellen's children. Ellen Kent is now a widow.
