Can anyone please help me with Susannah? Born Susannah Nelson, circa 1805, married James Jones in 1823 and had at least 8 children. She and James lived in Middlesex England at the time of the 1841 census. Love to know if anyone is researching the same topic. Thanks. Sharyn

Thank you so much everyone for your help - that gives me something to go on with. George Jones, James' and Susannah's son, lived in New South Wales and died in South Australia. I think another son migrated to Australia as well, but not sure on that one.

Hi Sue,

I only have the above info on George. Don't know anything of his parents except their names. We were always told that my grandfather, Oscar, George's son, was from Welsh stock but I'm not sure whether that is correct. That's really all I know.

Hi again all,

A distant cousin emailed me to say that James was born in Herefordshire and was still alive in the 1871 census, living in Birmingham with his brother-in-law James Nelson. She says that Susannah Nelson was born on 23 July 1801 in Nottingham.

WOW! You people are great!!! Thank you. I will confer with my cousin and see what she thinks. I really don't know any more details other than what I've supplied. I know a bit about son George who was my great grandfather. He ended up a ship's captain, sailing between England and Australia. He "married" my g-g mother, Maud Woods, and they had 4 children. We're not sure where the children were born as we can't find any records in Australia. They all claim to have been born in Sydney except for the oldest , Frederick Maitland Jones, who claims to have been born in England. Thinking on this now, Maud claimed to have been married in Newcastle and everyone assumed she meant Australia but maybe she meant England. Anyway, George left her and went to live in South Australia where he died in 1906. HOWEVER, the children were told that he died in 1894 (or thereabouts, about the time he would have left) and that he'd died at sea. Interesting.
