Think I got confused reading Service Records, as they were both son of Reuben, that Richard died too, 8/2/17, and his Marriage was to Ellen White 27/6/15, at time he was a Carman, living at 29, Watergate St.

Phew!, lol.

Chris :)

The only evidence I've turned up so far for a Richard with his fathers family is the other Richard living with Reuben and Annie. The surname is a gift at times, being rare, but that in turn has lead to some dreadful transcription errors...

Harriet's great aunt on her mothers side (Maria Hart b approx 1819 in Pilton Devon) was a 'monthly nurse', and she also took in Harriet, her mother, and her sister when Harriet's father died. I'm going to double check, but I believe Maria Hart died in 1894, which would rule her out.

I'm going to have a bit more of a poke around, and if you don't mind I'll come back to you for another search.

Thanks ever so much for your help.

Catherine Report 23 Jul 2012 11:52

You say that Harriet's mother or sister didn't have Richard in 1901 and 1911, but what about his father's family, have you checked them?

He could also have been fostered out to family friends so he could be under any name, taking back his birth name only when he signed up to the army?

Bit late in the day here for studying Service Records lol, but do both the Richards ones have written tattoo, crossed hands heart I love Nell White on them?...

That's my Richard Chris. That was the record that made us realise there was a fourth child from that marriage., but I can't find any trace of him between then and his war records. Very strange.

All those extra records you've posted are the right family Catherine.

Stella Report 22 Jul 2012 21:43

Yes, the regimental number threw me too. G/10421 is the other Richard, son of Reuben and Annie.

My Richard's father, John (died only weeks after Richard was born), was living at 1 Knott Street when he married.

Richard's mother Harriet was living at 15 Azof St on both 1901 and 1911. She was listed as Cooper, but Richard's three siblings John, Harriet and Isaac were Dabin. On 1911 the boys were lodging elsewhere, but Harriet was with her mother.

In 1891 the family were living at 12 ? Lane. Think the ? is Copperas.

On both 1901 and 1911 Harriet's mother hadn't got Richard, and neither has her sister Maria Andrews, so my only other thought was her great aunt Maria Hart who was most probably living on Giffin St at the time. It appears she took Harriet's mother and her two daughters in on the 1871 census. Harriet's father died very young too.

Thanks for the second reply, not there either. How someone can go missing between being born and enlisting I do not know...

I'm after a Richard Ernest Dabin born 1894. Not with his mother, his aunt, his grandmother...

There is another Richard, born the same year, who was son of Annie and Reuben. I can find him on both 1901 and 1911, but not my Richard.

He's not at either of the addresses that both Richard Dabins gave when they enlisted.

Hi I would be extremely grateful if anyone could me provide me with details of who was living at two addresses in the parish of St Paul, Deptford (Reg district Greenwich) on the 1911 census.

The addresses are 5 Addy Street and 10 Knott Street.

Thank you in advance for any help.
