I have a Annie Schlesenger who apparently married in 1878Jan/March Newcastle on Tyne Northumberland, Is their any one who can find out who she married Please

under her name on the register is the name Hannah?

I have her married to a Moses Hyman, But the name Natvatchsky has been put into the equation by another person doing the same tree??

I have them in 1911 under the name Hyman and all the children are Hyman ? Just wondering if they changed their name

Did Annie have a sister called Hannah ?

Looking at the image there are two entries on the register so could be a male missing from the index

Presumably this is the entry that you refer to:
Marriages Mar 1878
Hyman Moses Newcastle T. 10b 195
SCHLESENGER Annie Newcastle T. 10b 195
SCHLESENGER Hannah Newcastle T. 10b 195
Get the certificate for Moses?

Where does Natvatchsky come from?

No obvious marriages in the name of Natvatchsky

I would imagine that Annie and Hannah were one and the same. Annie being a nickname for Hannah. They probably entered both names on FreeBMD.

Marriages Mar 1878 (>99%)

Hyman Moses Newcastle T. 10b 195
SCHLESENGER Annie Newcastle T. 10b 195

It's just someone on ancestry has Mosses down as Natvatchsky ?

So I thought I'd check it out

Although they married in 1878 and had a son Henry 1878/9 I can't find them in 1881

I have tried both surnames, and thinking I might have something Wrong!!

As Moses hyman is their I'll take it I have the right name

thank you

Looking at Freebmd and the image of the index, you could just be looking at the same person but worth keeping in mind sisters or cousins marrying on the same day but by coincidence the other groom has been omitted by accident.

My grandmother and her sister had a 'twin' wedding, in South Shields in 1924.

You mention names being added to the register. Have you seen the register for yourself? You might clear this up if you write very nicely to the registrar saying that you want to purchase a marriage cert but do not know which to get Annie or Hannah as someone has checked FreeBMD and only one groom is mentioned. With luck, you might get a reply to say that the two really are one.

Hope this helps.

As you probably know, one can buy BMD.certs from the GRO or the local rego office.
There are some local BMD indexes online - see:
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/local_bmd
In particular: http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/
Marrs are usually referenced by entry #, not page # so one does know who wed whom.
Bs and Ds might be entry # or page # - these regos have 100 pages, with 5 entries per page.
Also, regos are organized by who holds them now, so, e.g., a birth rego'ed in Tynemouth RD in the Longbenton subdistrict now appears under N/castle, as the subdistrict was later transferred, along with all their old regos.

Sometimes you have to look at the application form to get some details.

Seems like NuT has reorganized their site in the last month:
http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/your-council/register-office/historical-searches

1878 HYMAN Moses
1878 SCHLESINGER Hannah
Marriage venue - Church unknown
Register No./Entry No.
JLP2/24

Usually, when it says "Church unknown",the entry is from the registrar's own rego, so it might be a rego office marr, or a non-conformist marr that he had to attend as they weren't authorized to keep official regos pre 1898 (pre 1980s for RCs).
The exceptions to this were jews, quakers and the royal family.
The J prefix for the rego code inclines me to view this as a jewish marr - maybe the "LP" bit rings some bells for you.
(I've seen S=synagogue as a prefix in other RD's codes).

Note Annie's MS is respelled here.
These would be transcriptions from 2 difft copies - at the end of each quarter, the rabbi would make 2 copies of his rego - one for the local office, and one for the GRO. He would send these off to the local office who would check them over, then stack the GRO copy (on their giant pages) along with all the other GRO copies, and ship them off to the GRO. He would also send in any completed regos - these would then be deposited in some archive - for C of E marr regos, this was usually the county records office, but I don't know if jewish regos went to there.

Here's another use of the local index - I'm looking for my grandad's aunt, and there are several entries with her name:

1867 - WILKINSON Elizabeth
Register No./Entry No.
BYK29/439

1867 - WILKINSON Elizabeth
Register No./Entry No.
WSG60/460

1868 - WILKINSON Elizabeth
Register No./Entry No.
ALS58/158

1868 - WILKINSON Elizabeth
Register No./Entry No.
WSG67/141

1868 - WILKINSON Elizabeth Ruth
Register No./Entry No.
WSG63/314

NuT don't tell you what the codes mean, but it's easy to guess (Byker, Westgate, All Saints)
My Liz was born in Byker, and there are 2 GRO 1867 entries.
So I look them up and click on the GRO page # to show all the names on that page.
I then look these names up in the local index. I've only listed a couple of these:

Births Mar 1867 (>99%)
Aisbitt Ann Elizabeth S G Newcastle T. 10b 121
Register No./Entry No.
BYK29/433
WILKINSON Elizabeth Newcastle T. 10b 121
Register No./Entry No.
BYK29/439

Births Sep 1867 (>99%)
Atkinson George Laidler Newcastle T. 10b 8
Register No./Entry No.
WSG60/454
Wilkinson Elizabeth Newcastle T 10b 8
Register No./Entry No.
WSG60/460

It's clear I need the 1868q1 Elizabeth. Here's his other aunt, rego'ed in Longbenton

1869 - WILKINSON Margaret Jane
Register No./Entry No.
LBN31/88

Births Dec 1869 (>99%)
Wilkinson Margaret Jane Tynemouth 10b 175

Lets look again at my Liz - from http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Births Mar 1867 (>99%)
WILKINSON Elizabeth Newcastle T. 10b 121

Now I can click on the "Newcastle T." link, then the more info "here" link to see info abt the RD (including all the subdistricts they've ever used).
I can click on the "121" link to see all the names that appear on GRO's page 121.
Because of the way the GRO binds the copies they get from the local RDs, all the events on the same page will be from the same subdistrict (or church for marrs).
