George Morris death 1891 NSW, Australia

I wonder if some kind member with Ancestry subscription would be kind enough to look for this death and tell me what details are recorded, please. He could also be shown as George W Morris or George William Morris.

I have seen the NSW BDM record showing Newtown as the place and George and Elizabeth as his parents.

His date of birth was 1831 Stanwick, Northamptonshire, England. I have this record and also the two census returns showing him there.

Many thanks for all your help.

Thank you, Jude and allotment for your kind help.

No, sorry, he's not the George I'm looking for. At least I can rule this one out now.

I found two more -

George W Morris 1915 Liverpool, NSW and

George Morris 1911 Canterbury, NSW

both with parents, George and Elizabeth

Thank you both once again

Thank you, Colin - yes, the age is wrong for mine. So we can rule out the 1911 death now.

I've got possible arrival in NSW for George Morris 1856 on "Robert Small" age 20 years (Beds) to NSW or "Marchioness of Londonderry" to Port Phillip and Sydney 1853.

I can see the first one but not the second and I believe that this one is on Ancestry.

Thank you once again.

When did George leave the UK? Im not seeing him on a UK census?

Did his parents go with him and did he have siblings and marry (who)

Gins, thank you for your replies.

I can see from the newspaper notices now that he isn't any of the three whose dates I've given.

The Ledger tree on ancestry got the birth date from me but not the date of death. I have the birth and baptism records from the Northants record office. He is a relative.

George is on the 1841 census for Stanwick, Northants with mother Betsy, brother Jesse, sister Alice and either Betsy's father or uncle Joseph Ribbitt (should be Rivett) and James Chamberlain, lodger.

George is also on the 1851 lodging with a John Poole and family in Stanwick. See my post above for his possible arrival in NSW.

Father was George William Morris, transported to NSW 1838 and died 1869. I have a large amount of family history on George William Morris, who is my direct ancestor.

I have a marriage certificate for a George W Morris 1876 NSW to Catherine (Kate) Meredith (nee Walker) widow but do not know if this is our man or not. Place of birth recorded as "England".

His siblings, Jesse and Alice Anne emigrated to NSW in 1851 on the "EMPEROR". Jesse joined his father on the Clarence River, where he married ( I am a descendant) and Alice Anne married a John Scott 1852 and went off to the goldfields in Castlemaine, Victoria.

I am now trying to find out what happened to their brother George.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Thank you, Colin - I feel this one is the strongest possibility for my George, as the date and age are right - I couldn't find how to access it as he does not appear to be on the NSW immigration lists. When you have time could you please let me know where you found it - would it be on the Victorian lists? I could not find the Marchioness of Londonderry on the shipping lists either. A cousin contact in Texas sent it to me and said it was on ancestry.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Thank you once again. He must be in steerage with 24 other young men! It looks like a quite small boat, too.

Is your previous post from ancestry, please? I would really like to get the record of the ship's indent to see what else is on there.

Thank you both very much for you kind replies, Colin and Anne.

No, John was not a sibllng, they were Jesse and Alice. George, their father was given a conditional pardon in 1850 and went to the Clarence River where Jesse joined him. George junior apparently did not and family stories say he remained in the Sydney area after arriving later.

Looking at your finding on the Marchioness of Londonderry, Anne, do you think that it looks rather like a family emigrating together?

I have looked at more Trove funeral and in memoriam notices and do not think he is any of the 1891, 1911 or 1915 George Morris mentioned in them.

At present looking into the marriage of George William Morris to Catherine (Kate) Meredith and family to see if it yields anything helpful. I now have details of their children so will investigate further.

Thank you all once again.

Hello,

I have been sent a tiny scrap of information concerning a GEORGE MORRIS -it is from a newspaper "LLOYDS WEEKLY dated 29 December 1889 and originates on a card held in the local Historical Society who cannot provide any more information on it, except the words "witness to m and a date 21 July 1866" (also on the card headed George Morris.)

A brief couple of lines saying "George Morris arrived from Northampton 1875 living on the Clarence River 1877. Brother and sister.........."

Can anyone please tell me how to access this to see if there is more information there. I have looked on google for Lloyds Weekly and it appears to be on an American site called Newspaper Archive - subscription required.

I would be most grateful for any ideas please.

Hello,

I have now been able to read the Lloyds Weekly for 29 December, 1889 and found the piece in the "Long-lost relatives" column.

The next item appears to be George Morris (the name is not clear) which says

George Morris and his wife Ann sailed with their family for America 20 years ago. Their daughter Mary writes.

So if that George and family sailed in 1869 then he can't be the one I am searching for.

The death in 1891 in my heading is not his either.

Another brick wall...

Hello,

This morning I have received the death record for George William MORRIS d. 3 Nov 1915 Liverpool.

His parents were: William Morris, sugar refiner and Elizabeth ?

George William was born in Kent, England.

Now I have confirmation that he is not my great uncle George b. 1831 Stanwick, Northamptonshire.

However, one of his descendants married into my Morris family in 1935.

A very big thank you to all who helped me to reach this far.

Reece :-) :-)
