I agree with Jude. I had a quite pleasant email from GR regarding a thread that I posted on the other day about the other website. The email informed me that I was breaching the rules so in future I will be very wary of mentioning the other site rather than jeopordise my membership here. Incidentally the thread seems to have been removed either by GR or the original poster.

It depends if this was her birth name or adoptive name, formal adoptions only started in 1927, so it would be hard to find anything unless she has an unusual birth name.

There's a tree on A which has her as Helena Alice Oakenfull Smith

Thanks,
i have come across the name oakenfull before so that could be a possibility.
i do know she settled in northampton and married charles william wilson as my nan, helena marjorie wilson lived all her life in northampton. all my nan ever seemed to tell me about her mum was that she was bought up on a barge.
i will have a look into isiah and lisa smith to see what else i can find.
thanks again for you help and suggestions.

Damian

Youve got threads about Wilson/Wright/Smith on the go and all the people are related in some way.

It might be an idea to stick to one family line, sort that and then move on to the next one? Just a suggestion

Also can you post when you have time to stick around for a while so that you can answer any questions that we have for you please

Thanks

:-)

Do you know who she was 'adopted' by ?

What do you know about her 'adoptive' family ?

It would not have been a 'formal' adoption as this did not start until around 1927.

How do you go about tracing ancestors you know were adopted at birth. This is my grt grandmother and noone in the family has any idea of her parents or where she was born.
She lived in Northampton. Possibly bought up on a barge!
