Im posting my own thread about these two people as I felt I might be hyjacking the 'Rampton' thread from yesterday

This is what Roy posted for me yesterday:

Gins, According to the national archives These documents are held at Sheffield Archives

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=199-nhs3&cid=5-7#5-7

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=199-nhs3&cid=5-26-1-1#5-26-1-1

Roy

if you enter Sheffield, Middlewood Hospital into their quick search at TNA their are several results
Is this what you are looking for?

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=199-nhs3&cid=5-16#5-16

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=199-nhs3&cid=5-17#5-17

The NHS reference is what you need eg NHS3/5/17/156 but the records are at Sheffield archives

If you click on a name the only info you will get from TNA is eg Contents:
Admitted 1884, died 1917 aged 59

They give date of admission, number in civil register, date of discharge, transfer or death, name, marital state, occupation, age, attack with duration and any cause, physical state and form of mental disorder; schedule of symbols used, a key to some of which is pasted in the front of NHS3/5/8/5.
From 1931 registers include the civil status number for certified, V[oluntary] or T[emporary] patients, as well as the general reference number; registers from 1937 onwards entitled 'Medical register of voluntary, temporary and certified patients' are of slightly different format and indicate occupation by symbol only.

I have gone round and round in cirlcles at the NA, Im totally pants at searching that site......so treat me as a newbie please!

The people Im looking for (hospital records) are:

Joseph Whiteley, died 02/12/1941. He was in Middlewood Hospital (at some point it was called Wadsley Hospital) I dont know the actual date he was admitted but he was in the US until 1933, so sometime after that.

He was transfered from Middlewood Hospital at the outbreak of WW11 and was sent to Storthes Hall Hospital where he died in 1941

Please note that I have all pre 1933 info on Joseph Whiteley

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other person:

Albert Fearn died 15/10/1934 in Wadsley Hospital. I dont know when he was admitted

I have all previous records of Albert Fearn

Help with finding any hospital records of the two people would be wonderful

Thank you

Gins...This may help in your search...Clarifys date Wadsley became Middlewood

Wadsley from 1890....
West Riding Mental Hospital, Wadsley from 1930,...
Middlewood Hospital, Middlewood Road, Sheffield (S6 ITP) from 1948. Possibly always known as Wadsley by local people.

Thats the right post code for the hospital. On Alberts death certificate it does say Wadlsey Hospital, so that makes sense and fits

Thanks Erin :-D
