I'm trying to find information about my Grandfather James Peter Smith who was born in Kilkenny, Co Kilkenny in Ireland 24 December 1884. I believe that his father may have been a soldier stationed in Kilkenny, unfortunately I do not know either his father or mothers name or where he was baptised but I think he was Roman Catholic. He later was a ships steward in the merchant navy.
Can anyone help with getting any more info about his Irish roots?

Jame's father is definitely called Daniel and he was in the Royal Artillery. No certain info on who his wife was. I don't think this guy "Smyth" is the right one.
