Hi i have a death cert of someone who appears to be my family but i can't quite link it up some help needed please.
Death cert says
Hannah YORK age 89 widow of John YORK informant C Clare
24Oct 1867 adress 13 ferry street lambeth surrey.

so 1861 shows an Ann? YORK living at 12? Ferry Street lambeth
1851 Hannah York is visiting the brown family Swabey Ct lambeth (next road to ferry st)
1841 swabey ct/ferry street with the brown family as a laundress not born in county.

one of the census indicates she was born in gloucestershire?
can't find this marriage? suspect the name John is wrong? and who is C Clare present at death? ( no relationship given) I have Clares marrying Yorks later on but this is too early to be the ones i know can anyone find the connection for me?

many thanks Helen

Is this the 1861? I would say it is 13 Ferry St and Ann's age on the image looks like 84 which would tie up with the age at death. On the image Ann is listed as the first person in the household but not show as head and she isn't living with the Aspinalls. She is with Mary and Thomas Brown and their children, all born Lambeth:

Name: Ann York
Age: 34
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1827
Gender: Female
Where born: Gloucestershire, England

Civil parish: Lambeth
Ecclesiastical parish: Lambeth St Mary
County/Island: Surrey
Country: England

Condition as to marriage: View image

Sub-registration district: Lambeth Church First

Household Members: Name Age
William Asprnal 47

Ann York 34

HI yes that's the right one!! on FMP it is listed as 12?? as a widow i guess she would be a lodger? but there is a continuing theme with the browns i note Mary is also a widow so maybe her daughter??? 1861 says she was b gloustershire?

thanks for looking!!

Hi Andrew Yes that is my Clare connection james married Hannah clare and his brother married Eliza Clare. But neither of these would be Clares as they were married YORKS? so C Clare is either Male or an unmarried female? I have details of these clares and their births etc and can't tie them up with this at all? but it does seem a strange coincidence!!

thanks for looking Helenx

1851 gives POB as Bristol. Odd that she lived with the Browns for so long but is described as a visitor.

I wonder about this marriage:

Name: James York - widower
Spouse Name: Hannah Clare widow
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 11 Oct 1830
Parish: Deptford St Nicholas
Borough: Greenwich
Register Type: Parish Register

One of the witnesses is a Mary Clare; the other is very difficult to read, last namd could be Graham

hi potty yes it is odd re the browns!!
re the marriages 2 york brothers married 2 clare sisters BUT the boys widowed father also married the girls widowed mother ?!?!?!
talk about keeping it in the family lol

ok so we could take it that Hannah YORK on my death cert is the widowed Hannah Clare nee? and they have got the name of her husband wrong and put John instead of James? (he had been dead a looooong time) the occupation is the same as my Yorks (wadding maker) my hannah was originally married to Jeremiah clare bc1777 he died 18 Oct 1829 St alphege Greenwich. maybe if their marriage could be found this might be her connection to the Browns???? jeremiah and hannah had 2 girls Eliza and Ann/hannah b lewisham/lee kent c 1800

anyone got the patience to fit this together??

thanks Helenx

Hi mmm had seen these not sure re the marriage but as jeremiah died in greenwich i am guessing they are the right children odd that my ann/hannah is missing? and why do you think the 2 boys were bap so late? as eliza was bap 1808 ?? will try and follow the siblings forward to see if that gives any clues.

many thanks for all the help!! off to get some zzzzzzzzz back tomorrow! night night Helenx

Hi Helen

I have looked at Clares born in Greenwich and there is a Charles Holloway Clare whose father was a Jeremiah but mothe was Mary Ann! He was living in Lambeth in 1861 and 1871. Worth looking at tomorrow when you are fresh. Sleep well!

now i have really lost the plot lol HEEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPP!!

Decided to follow the children to see if i could make a link.......William b1800 on the 1841 is living with wife maria and son henry. looked for the marriage and found one to a maria Blackmore 18 dec 1820 lee kent argggggggghhhhh back to lee and lewisham kent!! looked for other births and can only find births for children of a william and hannah????? Their is obviously a strong link between lee/lewisham and greenwich but i'll be blowed if i can see who is who as they seem to marry one place and have kids in another please help i'm tying my tiny brain in knots trying to follow them :-((((((

if anyone can sort this out for me i would be very very grateful!! i can send my e-mail addy if it's easier??
many thanks Helenxxxxxx

re the above Charles holloway clare he was baptised on the same day as his sister mary ann so i think they just put down the wrong mothers name???

i have tried the IGI but i just can't get to grips with the new layout and free BMD is too early for 50% of the children :-(
