Passenger Lists to South Africa

IanPJS Report 13 Jul 2012 07:19

George Pinder born 1876 East Ardsley, Yorkshire emigrated to South Africa in the early 1900's.

On FMP there is a record of G Pinder leaving Southampton for Durban in 1903.

George's wife's name was Annie, born 1880, and there is also a record in 1908 of A Pinder from Southamptom to Durban.

I don't have a subscription on FMP to check the transcripts so I would be obliged if someone could check the records for me.

Thanks,

Ian

Thanks for that Astra but that can't be him. He married his wife Annie in 1900 so doubt he would lie about his status.

Cheers,

Ian

Thanks again Astra.

It seems strange that the lady is listed as MRS Pinder yet Marital status says SINGLE.

Perhaps whoever wrote the lists made a couple of mistakes re the Marital status?

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Gins and AnnC,

Yes, you've got the correct George there.

The last two records I have are George's marriage to Annie and the Baptism of Stephen Alwynne at St Micheal's, East Ardsley 2/2/1902.

I have been told he went to South Africa and died there in 1956.

As George and family do not appear on the 1911 census it leads me beleive he must have gone to South Africa between 1902 and 1911.

Hi Choccy,

Yes, that's the family. Annie's father lived at Spring Valley Farm in Bramley.

If 1912 was their first date of departure to S. Africa I had better start looking at the 1911 census again using name variants.

Thanks very much for the information.

Cheers,

Ian

I've tried all sorts of variations for the 1911 census, but I can't find them. Have you any idea where Nancie would have been born; it might help in locating them. I can't see a birth for her in the Bramley reg district (if in fact she was registered as Nancie).

Hi Choccy and Maureen,

Like you Choccy I tried all combinations I could think of in the 1911 census but no luck.

Stephen was recorded on the 1901 census as being 1 month old, so born late Feb. or early Mar. 1901.

With all the toing and frowing it looks like Nacie was born in South Africa as I couldn't find a birth in Yorkshire.

If Annie and son Stephen departed 19/12/1903 it looks like George went out to S. Africa prior to them and they went to join him.

At least your information fills a gap in the family history for which I thank you both.

I'll have to have a go at putting a question on another site, I'm sure you both know which one, and see if there are any records of the family in S. Africa.to be found.

Again, thanks very much to you all for your efforts to assist me.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi All who helped,

With your details re the various goings and returns to UK of George and family, and the help of a lady in South Africa, I have now got details relating to the family in S Africa.

Stephen died in 1925 in an accident while serving in the SAAF. Nancie was born in S Africa and married there.

George died in 1956 and wife Annie died in 1957.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards,

Ian
