Member Since: May 2012 Posts: 17 Send Message	Can I suggest Langford is more likely to be Co.Longford. The name Derkin is more likely to be a corruption of Durkin or Durkan. The Durkin name is more prominent in Sligo with Durkan being prominent in Mayo. The Griffiths valuation found at askaboutireland.ie will give you a searchable database to search the many variations of name that existed around the 1850s. The common naming of sons,firstly after the fathers father, second son after mothers father,third son after father, fourth son after fathers eldest brother and so on may help you narrow down your options given alen/alan are rare in useage. Rootsireland may be an option.

Member Since: April 2007 Posts: 17 Send Message	Does anyone have any info about the Derkin or Durkin family from Langford, Ireland ? Alen and Mary Durkin were in Manchester by 1840 for the birth of John. I think Mary came from Waterford. I've looked in the census records, but wondered if anyone was researching the family. Thanks Jacqui
