Hello everyone, I have been trying to research my family history and have found that my great great grandfather, Joseph Skitt, had had two children in the 1911 census however one of them had died.
How do you find information on the child??? :-S :-S
Any information would be helpful, Thanks

Not sure what info you are looking for. The census will not give you the details of the deceased child unless, as in one of my own family, they had noted the name of the child and then crossed them off.
If the child was born after the 1901 then all you can really do is try to narrow down the possibles using FreeBMD.
Pre 1901 you might be able to find the family and get the name of the child.
If you would like to post some details we will see if we can help.
Welcome to the boards.

Looks like a locally common surname
This is the only likely marriage I can see, despite what it says on the census.
Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1914 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PEARSON Lily Skitt Wolverhampton 6b 1317 Skitt Joseph Pearson Wolverhampton 6b 1317 Skitt Joseph Person Wolverhampton 6b 1317
There are quite a few births and death fo children in the area between 1906 and 1911.
There are more children after the census

I know he was born 6th January 1881 an died in either jan, feb or march of 1949.
He had a wife named Lily Pearson and a son named Samuel Skitt who was born in 1921.
He was born in Wolverhampton, staffordshire and his wife was born in willenhall, Staffordshire.
Hope this helps xx

Based on Joseph (b1881) and the census stating that they were all born in Willenhall, the family didn't move around.
So I looked at Freebmd but very sadly there were a lot of child deaths in Staffordshire.
And as Andrew says, there are no marriage showing as indicated on the census. I did a very wide date span and even took out the search only being for Staffs.
I am about to see if I can find it under spelling variations.

Joseph's Mothers maiden name was Squire,
She was remarried after her husband Noah Skitt died in 1896 to a man named Matthew Corrigan. He then lived with his mother and step-Father and his two step-sisters at the time of the 1901 census.

And the answer to my search for variations is zero.
Can someone with access to military stuff please see if Joseph joined up as his marriage was just before the start of WW1. Talking to hubby who is into miltary history, he says that it wouldn't be impossible that an ordinary working man to pick up on what was beginning to kick off, especially if he could read the newspapers. Joseph signed and wrote address on the census himself. I wonder if they suddenly got married if he was about to enlist. Just a thought.J

On the 1911 census the boarders are William Payton and his wife Ethel with child Edith.
William Payton married Ethel Pearson so could be Lily's sister.
