I can't see him in any previous census's in the UK probably because he was serving in the army aboard. I also can't see him on Family Search..

I looked at the 1901 Irish Census wihch is free to search online and this is the only Crossley family I could see in County Tyorne. They may not be related but posting just incase

1901.

Hello Lauren, what do you mean by "was Walker born" ?

K

K Report 7 Jul 2012 18:24

Found his army record on Ancestry.

Prior to his marriage to Alice his father Samuel - possibly living in Dublin - is named as his next of kin and it is listed that he had 2 brothers younger and 2 older.

Thanks for the replies , my grandfather yeras ago before he died tried to put a family tree together and on some of the paper work he had written it says Benajmin was a walker then changed his name to crossley, but not 100% sure if this is true , might of been changed so he could join the army .
K that is him as he married an Alice Mary Green . How would i find out his brothers names and ages .

Hi Lauren,
Looking back at the previous thread re his son Colin Crossley, and the replies, I noticed something a little bit odd.
On the 1911 census, his name is entered as Benjamin HF Crossley.
I am assuming that the militarry records that you refer to also sa his name was Benjamin.

For both of his children Alice and Colin who were born in India, his name on their birth records is: Henry Frederick Crossley.
Both birth records are found on Family Search and neither has included Benjamin in the father's name
He died in Dorchester, Dorset in 1922 ( or registered 1st quarter 1922) and his death is listed as Benjamin HF Crossley

There is a probate record for his wife Alice Mary who died 3 Jun 1947.
the estate was £165 1s 7d. Administration to Ali Legg wife of Frederick James Legg.
I am presuming that this is daughter Alice Crossley?
Unfortunately the probate states only that Alice Mary was a widow and does not name her husband.

EDIT.
There was another child who was born and died in India
Harry Crossley b 22 Apr 1891 Bengal. Died 13 Nov 1893 Bengal
Parents: Henry Frederick and Alice Mary Crossley

Nice one K!
I looked at his Military docs dated 1914 where he calls himself Benjamin Fred Crossley.
Most of the paperwork contained refer to his previous service in the Royal Horse Artilliery based overseas from 1881 until circa 1901.

The pages give Service No 230 and have Benjamin Frederick /Fred Crossley at the top of the page, yet he married as Henry Frederick Walker Crossley during this period.

It is hard to figure out exactly what his birth names were!
