Find Ancestors

I would very much appreciate any advice on my research as I am stuck on something. In the 1851 census I have found Head of Household to be Mary Anne Vobes born 1810 age 41 shown as Lodging House Keeper. No husband appears but there are four children shown. There is a brother called Charles Weadon.
Mary Ann Vobe's mother is also shown in the census called Ann Weadon born in 1787, Also some lodgers.
On that premise I have looked for Mary Ann marrying as Weadon but to no avail. Can find note of her birth but nothing between that and her showing in 1851 with four children on census. Also having checked back on Ann Weadon cannot find reference to Mary Ann but found Ann in 1841 census.
Also has anyone any idea why people only show up in one or two censuses and many not at all as if they have vanished.

could you give us some idea of where.

She could have married before sept 1837 in which case only parish records would give you the marriage.

It is not uncommon to have people missing on census returns, believe me it drives us all mad. Sometimes the name may have been mistranscribed or the enumerator spelled it wrongly so you may have to think outside the box

if I have the right person on ancestry the name is mistranscribed as Bohes

Mary Ann is a widow and if she was 41 in 1851 she would have been born in 1810 and not 1819

Well she married the lodger as James Bate is with her in 1861
