Find Ancestors

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I am trying to find who Henry's parents were.
I believe he was born in 1872, Faringdon.
The only information I have got is that his mothers name was Sarah.

That is if I have got the right Henry.

Henry went on to marry Elizabeth Smith in 1896, Faringdon.
He had 4 children Henry, Charles, Ellen and Ethel.

Hope someone out there can help me out. I have hit a brick wall my end!!

Sarah is shown as unmarried, occupation looks like Drovers daughter.
Henry was probably born out of wedlock. His marriage and birth cert might show fathers details if you are lucky, but might not be correct as they were sometimes made up to save face.

Thank you for your help Andrew. There is one thing that is quite confusing though, on the 1911 Census it states he was born in 1872 and on the 1901 Census it states he was born in 1875.

If Henry was born out of wedlock would he of taken his mother's surname?

Ages in census records can vary by several years from census to census. People often didn't know their birthdays and didn't have anything in writing. I've seen people get younger from census to census. One of my ancestors is 75 in 1841 census but 70 when he dies in 1848.

It was normal for children to take mothers name if born out of wedlock.
