Hi Everyone, I am trying to find information on my great great grandfather. Hope someone can help with anything at all please. I think Bryan Lavan came to York, England around 1880 and married Mary Anne Narey on 4th June 1881. I know he worked as a labourer. I am looking for his actual birthplace and date of birth and anything else anyone can help with.

Thank you,
Katie

Katie....

The Census above shows Byran from "Derry"....

It should actually read Derrykinlough Kiltimagh (1901) which is in the in the CO MAYO
There are 6 Lavan families still in Derry 1901 Census

At the time in question abt 1860 Derrykinlough was in the Civil Parishes of both
Killedan and Kilbeagh
It sounds complicated but its not really..

There were 504 acres of the Derry Townland in Killedan Civil Parish and 560 acres in the Kilbeagh Civil Parish..(all due to land boundries of the particular Baronies at the time)....
These all changed pre 1901 when it came under Kiltimagh DED.

So you would be needing to look for family in either or all of the above Civil Parishes.

Lavan is a Mayo surname with a few found in the Co Galway...

Katie, you don't need to know what church they were married in to get their marriage certificate. The children were all born in Yorkshire, as was his wife, so it's likely they married here (unless you know otherwise?).

Your first step is to try to find their marriage on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk

EDIT: The marriage is there for you to find - I won't spoil your fun by putting it here. It's much more satisfying to find these yourself.

You then use the information from that index to order a copy of the certificate from GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ - they cost £9.25

Katie

Well I have this John Narey 1840-1915 and Ellen Caraline 1841-1900. I think I have the dates right. I think they were born in Ireland. Any help or more info would be greatly appreciated.
