The link Darren posted is only for soldiers who left the Army after 1920. If he left before then and his records aren't on Ancestry then it looks as though they haven't survived. |

The James P Smith mentioned by Glitter Baby and Potty may be my Grandfather. I have looked for the service and pension record on Ancestry for 57642 Driver or Corporal James P Smith who served with the Royal Field Artillery but no joy. |

Yes I believe the "Steward merchant service" refers to him having been in the merchant navy. Unfortunately the merchant navy records 1900 - 1913 were destroyed! |

Hi, I'm looking for information about my Grandfather, James Smith. The only information I have is that he was a "Driver" in the Royal Field Artillery stationed at Shoeburyness in 1917, I do not know his regiment. |
