Is there a searchable index for these records.

I dont know much about these things but I think only the next of kin or the serviceman can access these records for a fee.

Take a look at this site to see if you could apply for any records but you would have to prove next of kin. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is very good for those service people who lost their lives.

WW2 records are, as advised above, available only to proven NOK

They cost £30.00 unless the applicant is the serviceman's widow.
