Julie Report 17 Jul 2012 18:40

hi thank you .
potty all on rootschat i do say he died young which is the info i was given from my husbands sister.but once the death cert came it states he was 80 years old so as with a lot of stories passed down the info was wrong.
i wasn't intentionally trying to deceive any one just going on what i had at the time.
i have emailed the site you mentioned and they have no info for me.
i have asked hubby's sisters relatives to try and find out his wife's surname so i can maybe get his marriage cert.
sorry for the confusion.
im very thankfull for all your help.
i only receieved his death cert this week and it doesnt give place of birth or parents or any info at all like that.
like i say i am sorry for the confision

Apologies.
I have deleted my last two threads in error.
I misread Julie's request and thought she was looking for Joseph born 1860ish.
I didn't realise she had a 30yr span on his birth.
Joseph found by mel on the 1861 census was born in Glasgow, son of Robert Nixon and Ann Sison.
Robert was from Edinburgh and Ann Sison was from Kendal, Westmorland The family are on the 1851 census in Kendal.
As per Mel, they are in Glasgow at 1861.

at 1871 there is no sign of Joseph and his parenrs. His sister has married and 13yr old brother Thomas is in her Glasgow household.
Mother Ann re surfaces in 1881, together with Thomas and another son named John b 1863 Glasgow?
No sign of Joseph on any other census other than 1861.

googling, I picked up your previous post on rootschat. On there you say that Joseph died Young and yet the death cert says he was 80!

From rootschat posting:

joseph nixon born scotland left scotland to arive in dominica (not the republic)
he arives in dominica and is a wealthy man he meets and has children with a black woman .
he dies early and leave his oldest son clifford his estate and money.
however this is lost when clifford himself dies young again no dates except
i do know cliffords daughter was born around 1941 in dominica

This site mentions Giraud Nixon - maybe the site owner could help or point you in the right direction.

Only two Joseph Nixon of approx the right age coming up in the 1851 Scottish census and both of them were born in England, one in 1849 with parents Joseph and Ann, both born England. They are visitors with a Hugh and Margaret Patterson and family. No occupation is given for Joseph snr.

The other was born 1842; parents Joseph and Jane. All the family born England.

Scottish BMDS didn't start till 1855 so you would need more info on him to find his baptism on parish records on Scotlands People.

Can you get a copy of his marriage cert to Philomene ,this may help

Julie

Julie Report 17 Jul 2012 12:18

thank you very much
i have read the above during my search
they are extremly interesting.
the problem is that i know a resonable bit about the nixons in dominica my husbands sisters mother is josephs nixons granddaughter
however his grandchildren know nothing about his date of birth or scottish roots and this is what i wish to research.

it is most definatly dominica small island
my husbands father is from there
and his sisters mum is also from there
joseph nixxon lived in either wesley or Calibishie

can you confirm - is it Dominica or Dominican Republic - two different places - Dominica is a very small Carribean Island, very poor - went there on a cruise - Dominican Republic is a popular holiday destination

That one is the only Joseph Nixon born Scotland I could find on the census. You really need someone with a Scotlands People sub as that site is all pay to veiw.

His father Robert was a Brush Maker if it is the right one.

Julie Report 15 Jun 2012 12:55

hi no my husband and his sister have different mums
its her mums side sshe is researching.

i was sent this information from a library i asked for help from in dominica
this is what they sent.

Mr. Joseph Nixon was married to Mrs. Philomene Nixon and their children were Clifford, Giraud and Ignelia Nixon.

Joseph died on March 17, 1927. Ignelia had a daughter name Clarissia.

Giraud children were Annison and Gabriel Nixon.

Clifford was married to Marie-Therese had two sons, Patrickson and Greton Nixon.

Philomene Nixon died on September 12, 1950.

it seems like a lot of info and i have tried desperately to use i have been waiting six weeks for his death cert i have applied for ito get his date of birth and place
but as joseph left Scotland to go to Dominica and we wish to trace his scottish roots i thought it might be an idea to ask on here.
someone may have a Joseph who immigrated in there tree.
thank you for repliing

If he is in a GR tree, you will be able to find him by looking in 'search trees'

How did you find his exact DOD?

When were the children born?

Doesn't your husband have the same ancestors as his sister?
