I am trying to trace my family but dont know where to start
Advice needed please

There are lots of sites which give info on Lancashire but we need to know some details please.

Names, dates etc.

Glenys, start with yourself! Add your parents and whatever other relatives you know.

Use FreeBMD to find records http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Order certificates on-line from GRO - you need them to prove you have the right people http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Always work from facts and don't believe what other people have in their trees unless they can prove it.

This is a useful site for Lancs. http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html

Start from the 'facts' you already know - i.e. your parents, then grandparents etc. and we can work back until we get to census's.

Do a google search for a good book about the subject, or go on a course run by a local education authority. Or buy a magazine.

Hi again My father was Jack Belshaw born 1917 I wish to look further back to William who was his father and also by remarkable coincidence My good friend and colleague was lookng through her Mothers history and found a Belshaw family connection so we are really wanting to see what it is.
