I cannot find a marriage for John Bell c 1800 in Cumberland, and Hannah Wardale, b, 5/11/1804 in Cantley Yorkshire. Their 1st child Joseph, b, 6/2/1825 is registered in the Knarsdale Parish Register. |

thank you for your help Mike. Since you wrote I've searched Grenta Green, Cumbria, Yorkshire, in fact everwhere I can think of. It might have been easier if I could have traced his parents, but John Bell around here is like the proverbial needle and haystack. Any, and all help would be fantastic. |

Hello 'potty', Thank you for replying to my plea for help. There are three Corby's in Cumbria. Great, Little , and Corby Gates, a farmstead near Alston. The two John's from Great and Little married ladies from Longtown and Brampton, neither of them called Hannah. You have the correct family. I have them in the 1841 census. their first child was baptized in St Judes Church at Knarsedale.........but where were they married? It's the proverbial needle and haystack problem. |

Hello Mel. the report on Ancestry is wrong I'm sorry to say. I have a copy of the birth certs of two of their children, Hannah 12/6/1839, and Sarah, 7/10/1844. Both certificates name the mother as Hannah Wardale on one and Wardle on another. |
