and thanks in advance. im looking for any info on mary murray 1865c born tarbert ireland . ive found a brother robert murray 1880c also irish in the 1911 census in plymouth they were living with marys husband who i also want any info on william veitch 1861c born scotland. ive been told williams farther is also called william. mary and william married 30 november 1882 tarbert ireland. i would like try to trace further back. thanks danny :-)

I think that this is your William's birth.

William Grosert b. 6hr.0m.PM on fourteenth April 1860 at Gilmerton. (Under father's name) Illegitimate, Mother Janet Groset, Domestic Servant. The informant was Helen Grosert (who signed her name), Grandmother. The birth was registered on 30th April 1806 at Liberton by George Taylor, Registrar.

There is no RCE (Register of Corrected Entries) reference on the certificate to prove paternity. Perhaps he just knew who his father was or perhaps his mother later married his father.

yer ive come across a few that start out with their mothers maiden name then it swaps later on. thanks.

Well, I don't see a marriage for his mother to a Mr. Veitch. It looks like his father was unable or unwilling to go to register his birth and therefore could not be named on the certificate. Had his mother raise a claim to prove the paternity of her son there would have been an RCE in the margin of the entry on the register.

I don't see William on the 1871 census either as Veitch or Grosart.

His mother seems to have just diappeared after his birth.

have tryed the groireland website and it says i can only apply on line for marraige certs after 1920. is there another website i could use? thanks
