Lewis Report 26 May 2012 15:03

Greetings people.
I have just had Lewis Lewis's Marriage cert. from GRO. as being married to Dorothy Thomas on 24th January 1920. his address was 80 Clydach road, Blaenclydach.
(a stones throw from where his family used to live in Moreton Terr.Clydach Vale)
His father was David Lewis (deceased) only differance is his age 25.
I have his birth cert. for 1891, which would make him 29..
Getting there slowly...LOL

Hi Lew. You say ( if he is the right one )

May i ask how you came about the fact that your Lewis LEWIS came to Australia, as you say in your post "He went to Australia in about 1922"

The family "you listed" i feel is the correct family we found in Victoria, but of course he/they may not be your Lewis LEWIS?
But we can only go off the information that is supplied by the poster.

You say your LEWIS family were Coal miners
The Gippsland ( South east ) area in Victoria was a large coal mining region in this state....also many miners ( from the U.K )came to Australia to mine....... Coal,Tin,Copper,Gold,ect....

There is one other that i can find on shipping records to Victoria, but this was in 1912....and it states this Lewis LEWIS was Welsh.

I will add this as also a "possible" for you ( birth year is estimated )

Name:Lewis Lewis
Estimated Birth Year:abt 1888
Age:24
Arrival Date:23 Apr 1912
Arrival Port:Melbourne, Australia
Departure Port:Liverpool
Ship:Afric
Nationality:Welsh

Un-assisted passenger records ( Victoria )
LEWIS LEWIS age 24 APR 1912 AFRIC B 846 006
Also on board.
LEWIS EMILY age 3 APR 1912 AFRIC B 846 009
LEWIS JANE age 46 APR 1912 AFRIC B 846 009
LEWIS ROBERT age 2 APR 1912 AFRIC B 846 009

There were also many Lewis LEWIS deaths in the state of Victoria alone.....8 in total from 1921 to 1985 ( without listing other states )

There is one that stands out...and "could be?" the death of the Lewis LEWIS i have listed arriving above.
The death region/town is Bendigo ( Central Victoria )
Bendigo was/is one of Victoria's largest Gold mining towns.

The father listed on this death cert is David.
Age at death could be out as far as minus/plus 10 years. ( pending on who supplied the information about the deceased.)

Surname: LEWIS
Given Names: Lewis
Father: David
Mother: UNKNOWN
Death Place: BEND ( = Bendigo )
Age: 85
Age Code:
Year: 1960
Reg Number: 24516
Event: D

Lewis Report 11 May 2012 15:36

the family of Lewis lewis were all miners (coal)back in Wales, but he may have changed trades for the new location !
The Gleny's LEWIS marriage to Valentine MILLS must be the daughter getting married.
We didn't even know Lewis was married untill the passenger list (if he is the right one ) so this is why I may seem a bit vague.

Just to add.

Gleny's LEWIS marriage to Valentine MILLS

You might notice that the information that Cupcakes listed.
Re: WW11 for Valentine MILLS
***Locality on Enlistment RED CLIFFS, VIC***

"Red Cliffs" ( Mildura ) is where Lewis and Dorothy LEWIS were living during electorol years.

I feel reasonbly confident this is the family you listed in your heading.

Hi Lew.

This Lewis LEWIS in Mildura..... occupation might be your best clue...as shown on Aussie electorol roll (Occ: Horticultrist)

Was his occupation "Horticultral" or similar back in the U.K?
eg: Census records

Mildura is a large city on the Victorian and New South Wales border.....and is one of our main source/suppliers of Fruit growing region.

Have said on there that we should continue on this one. Go to your first post on here and click edit. You can then amend the heading to reflect the search involves Australia.

Lew - do you know Dorothy and Glenys' exact birthdates?

Who were Lewis and Dorothy's parents? All this sort of info gives us a better chance of tracing them - there are actually several Lewis Lewis's in Australia about the same time.
