I can't find my grandads 1st world war record. maybe it was one of the records burnt. I wondered if another pair of eyes maybe able to find anything. He was George William Nye, born in 1895 Forestgate, Essex. He served in with the City of London royal fusiliers. I know from a newspaper clipping that he was gassed in France and returned to France, and then was captured by the Germans, and didn't see his wife till 1919. He was married in 1918, on special leave. He was living with parents in the 1911 census at Strone road, Forestgate , West Ham. |
