Only order the certs from Local Register Offices or GRO (£9.25) - many other places charge very much more ! |

I know, some censors spelled it Ryhill so could be error though I found John on BMD and it was spelled Ryill. There are a lot of Rayhills in the Durham area and went off down that path for a while as there was a Joseph born in the same year as mine and in Durham. Also his mother was called Mary but she turned out to be born Mary Morgan not Nicholson and her birth year was wrong. So confusing! |

Hi Lynne, thanks. I have this census and the previous one in 1901 with Joseph listed as stepson which led me to think that they are Marys sons but not Josephs though I can't find any record of Marys marriages to anyone and both John and Joseph had different birthplaces, on in Liverpool and the other Durham. Mary was born in Withernsea and later lived in Hull so it's a real mystery. |

Hi, I'm looking for more info on my grandfathers two half/stepbrothers John E and Joseph P Ryill. I have found them both on the 1891 census living with my grandfather(Ebor) and his parents and have found John on a previous census when he was 17 and living at an army barracks and then later married and living in Kent but can't find anything about their true parentage and how they came to be in my family. My grandparents were Joseph and Mary Benson and Marys maiden name was Nicholson. I cannot find a marriage record of a Mary Nicholson marrying a Ryill and have tried ordering John and Josephs birth certs but nothing could be found. It is believed that Joseph(known later as Jos) emigrated to South Africa as a young man. Any info would be gratefully received. Thank you. |
