I need a fresh pair of eyes please.

Charlotte Branning married Joseph Quick in St George the Martyr, Southwark on Nov 28 1821. Note there is another confusing entry under Pallot, where the date is not clear looks more like 1823 and the church is referred to as St George in The Borough. I believe this is the same marriage.

She had a child William Shakespear on May 2 1832, plus other children.

I believe she died in 1847 in Lambeth, although there are deatha of Charlotte Quicks in 1843 & 1844.

I cannot trace her birth - some public trees have her birth as 1811, but this cannot be if she married in 1821.

I have put her as born abt 1800 until I can trave her birth.

Thinking of sending for the death certificate to see what that might yield, but would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions before I do.

Sorry, do not understand how her son can be William Shakespear if the parents names were Branning and Quick - or is Shakespear his middle name?
Thank-you.

Added:
Shakespear is his middle name from IGI.

I note Regent St is address on death above - I think the 1841 Charlotte is her as their address is Gordon Place, which seems to be on Regent Street as that is the address of families before & after then.

Thanks for this info, it gives me confidence to send for a death certificate that may then lead to establishing her birth.

I believe the 1841 Census is the right one - have had several examples wher the ages seem to be rounded down.

Why I wonder are the children's ages 'correct'.

I think Chris is the one to thank really as without the address it would be tricky to establish!

Chris
Thanks for putting the details of the 1843 and 1844 deaths - sloppy on my part not to look at them.

They confirm that the 1847 death is the correct one as Charlotte would have been too young or too old to have children etc.

If her birth was 1803 using the date calculated from the death, then do you think this might be a possibility:

Charlotte Bruning baptised May 8th 1808 St Olave Bermondsey

People can be baptised at any age, even as an adult, so there is no reason why it should not be her.

Children were often baptised as a 'job lot' as this was cheaper so have you checked if any siblings were baptised at the same time?

Dea x

EDIT - That seems to be the same baptism which Chris has found and it is dated 1803 !!

Just quick comment regarding rounding down - never done for children as far as I am aware. I suppose if you are very young it would be too inaccurate, and after all a bit mad if you are 6 years old say! I suppose we need to remember that the reason for the census is for the government to obtain useful information, so pinpointing how many children and what ages lived in a certain locality might well have been important.

AnnCardiff

I repeat my apology from the Henry Quick thread.

I did not see them as the same query as I was only interested in Charlotte Branning in this thread and Henry Quick, her son , in the other thread.

I really do appreciate people's efforts to answer my queries.
