I am after some tips of places to look to find out what happened to my gg uncle. His story in a nutshell:
Stanley Malcolm Robert Gardner born 25th August 1888 in Bradwell Oxon to William James & Martha Gardner. 1 of 4 children. Married Priscilla Shepherd 25th December 1909 in Littlemore Oxford. They lived with his parents and youngest brother for a time (certainly on 1911 census). By the time we was called to serve in World War 1, they were residing in 12 Sidney Street, Oxford and he was working at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford as a Museum Attendant. (He listed himself as Malcolm Robert Stanley on his military papers). He joined the Royal Field Artillery and received 3 medals. On returning home he resumed employment with the museum. In 1947 he was the witness to his mothers death, at which time his address was stated as the museum. It is not certain, but I believe that he lived there without Priscilla. He retired from the museum on pension in 1959 and his service ended in 1961. This is where we lose all trace of him. On the 1962,1963, 1965 and 1968 Electoral Rolls, Priscilla is listed at 12 Sidney Street, living alone. When she dies in 1968 she is listed as his wife in her occupation (stating only that he is retired, and not that she is a widow). He is not the witness to her death, her brother - Walter is. The Radcliffe Infirmary where she died do not keep visitor logs for the period, so there is no way of telling if he visited her at all. There is no mention of him in the notice of her death in the local paper from the time. She is buried alone in Rosehill Cemetary, Oxford in a double grave which was paid for by her brother Walters son in law - George Digweed. There are no records that I can find of any children to this marriage. I cannot find a death registered in any variation of his name - all christian names and all spelling variations of his first name. Without various information the DWP are unable to tell me where he was living from 1959 - 1961 receiving his pension. Any ideas would be gratefully received to help me track him down. I have been looking for him on and off for a number of years now, and would love to be able to find out what became of him, especially as he had no descendants that I am aware of. He would have been 71 in 1961 when he retired completely.
Thank you very much for reading this, and any help.
