Hi Karen
I had a look at this but can't see any trace of him in NSW, nor his death. As you say if he was on the electoral rolls here until 1980 he would have been in his 90s.
Sorry I can't help,
Cherilyn

Hello all,
I am still trying to establish if the man in NSW is the correct Stanley, but with very limited access to Australian records and no sign of him on a passenger list, or a death record on the records I can view, its proving very difficult for me to discover one way or the other if this is him / what happened to him.
Also, how would i discover whether or not he got divorced? I know Priscilla is listed as his wife on her death certificate, but will take that with a pinch of salt for the time being, as according to the electoral rolls from the period, they were not living together in the years leading up to his death.

Sue, I tried all 3 spellings, no joy :-( :-(

Gins, no children listed on military records, and none that I can see in bmd.

Karen,
Did you do the 3 spellings of Gardner/Gardener/Gardiner on the Ryerson Papers.????

In Stanleys service records, Priscilla for a time was living at 62 Osborne Road, Leicester in 1918.
The 1911 census brings up no results for this address and I am unable to locate the electoral roll for 1918 to hunt for clues. Any ideas?

I have contacted the museum. I have his employment history from them and details of his final pension payment, but they are not aware of any details other than the amount as it was paid through an insurance company.
I am tempted to contact them again, but already went back and forth a few times and dont want to annoy them if I can help it... :-)

Thanks Sue, have just looked, can't see him on there either, but a useful website to bookmark for future.

Thanks Andrew for clarification, will save me the deliberation of upgrading my membership right away.

I wonder now if this is the right Stanley.... But it's the closest I have come in years, so going to follow the trail until it goes completely cold.

good site looking for Deaths right up into the 2000.

This would make him close to 100.
My membership is not letting me view australian records unless i upgrade my membership (£155).
A website that I found for he australian BMD only goes to 1981 for deaths and he is not listed on there.

Gins, I did see that one, he was very much alive at this point as he changed job roles at the ashmolean in August 1956.

Andrew and Choccy, looks very promising. :) No idea who Violet is. Need to see if I can track down his move to Oz now to confirm. Confused as to why he would leave the country, but thats completly irrelevant. Now to see what my ancestry membership will allow me to view. Thanks very much. First lead I have had in years :)

If that is him in Australia, on the Australian Electoral Rolls he is living with Violet Gardiner
