I can't understand why a Canadian soldier would be in Scotland in 1804? And was still there in 1807?

Completely agree - I treat with caution - but sometimes they can give a guide.

Their marriage cert would be useful if this is the right one from Scotlands People

Hey K,

Yeah i'm trying to be slightly cautious of some of the Ancestry Tree's, a few seem to have just added bits and pieces without checking facts.

I click into 1 the other day as they had a rellie on the 1851 (i'd been struggling) and it turns out all the census's she had were for a completely different name ....and family!

I think some people just wildly copy, and it's annoying.

I'll check that out out tho :-D thanks.

Slightly a sideline but a tree on Ancestry does list their first child as John Hart Birth 20 Aug 1805 in Govan, Lanarkshire.

Both parents are listed as being born in Govan but their parents are not listed so this may be a guess.

Hi Guys,

I have found a nice (?) surprise whilst trawling through some old data i hadn't really had time to analyse.

John Hart marries Christina (Christian) Smith sometime after 1st July 1804.

Banns are 11 & 17th June & 1st July.

The entry states John was a 'Soldier of the Canadian Reg't of Foot' and states they were 'in this parish for 3 days' The marriage was in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. There is another marriage a little further up whereby the Groom states same occupation as John.

Their child Robert Hart was born 26 Feb 1807, the Baptism states 2nd child of the couple, unaware of any other children to this couple at the present time (Robert being my direct line). The name of the Mother differ's slightly on the Baptism record stating John Hart & Christ'n Smith Parkhead. John Houston & Robert Hall witness's.

No idea where the Parkhead comes from. On Robert's death cert it state's Mother's maiden name as Smith (yes i am aware the informant (Son in Law) was probably unaware she had a further surname).

I have everything going forward's from Robert, i just would like to go further backwards.....

If anyone can shed any light on the Canadian bit, or where John Hart and Christina came from i'd be very grateful xx
