,,,,,the second entry has been a mistake and should imagine a vicar ,verger or clerk has not turned a book page from which he was entering the details into the parish register.............and therefore made two entires the second being cancelled..

Jonesey - I think that it would automatically have been entered in the index because the marriage took place.

If it was bigamous, this may have been discovered much later.

I can't decipher the groom's occupation...
Was he in the Army?

If he married without the permission of his CO, or whichever senior officer needed to grant this, I believe the Army didn't recognise the marriage....?

The couple may have arranged another ceremony or may have considered themselves married at this one in church.

Its a bit strange. They both appear in family photo's.

Dea, I was a bit slow there. The bigamy theory might be correct I suppose but the fact that it made it on to the index and remains there is curious in that case.

In my tree one of my great aunts was duped into a bigamous marriage but my understanding is that the record of the "Marriage" was subsequently expunged.

I see that Lilian died as a Myers:

Deaths Dec 1930 (>99%)
Myers Lilian B 31 Medway 2a 904

Lilian passed away when she was 30, I have family photo's of the couple. Her neice is still alive, but she is 89, not something I can bring up in conversation over the phone.

It has 'cancelled' written all through it Jonesey ??
