I DO think Alice was still alive in 1911 as she was named as next of kin on son's army papers and these were dated 1915?

It's difficult to say who lived there in '91 and '01 as there are no house numbers.

All the housed have names like Quarrington House and Radnor Lodge etc.

alice may noy be alive in 1911??? who is at the address in 1891/01 please? also john was an engineer so his father may have been educated as well and had money? ( although this would be a 1st in my family lol)

Dea Report 19 Mar 2012 09:15

The address is correct, as you spelled it Barbara.

I did an address search on 1911 and the house is there but Alice is not.

I suspect that Alice may have been in service there as it was quiite a 'posh' house with a couple of servants.

The occupiers were named Shaw - an elderly widow and 3 spinster daughters, all living on 'Private means'.

BarbaraFromYorkshire Report 18 Mar 2012 17:15

Hi Helen

Not finding him on census 91 / 1901

However on his Army Records it say
next of kin MOTHER Alice Lee, 59 Mayow ( not sure of the road name) Road, Forrest Hill

underneath it then says

Elizabeth Constance lee ---wife ---11 Edric Road

so if the next of kin is right then we are looking for him with mother named Alice on the 1891 / 1901 census

Will keep looking

Now I am wondering if the John Morton Lee ( He has a J at the end of his name ie John Morton Lee --J ) so would this be for Juniior as in the 1939 address there is

Elizabeth Constance Lee
John Morton Lee (senr)
John Morton Lee ----J

1 Rokeby---Collage Road SE 21

Name: Elizabeth Constance Lee
Electoral Year: 1939
Parliamentary Division: Dulwich and North
County or Borough: Southwark

What I mean is ---is John Morton Lee ----J Elizabeths son on the Electoral Registers and not her husband except on 1939 when they are both there.?? !!

Barbara x :-S

EDIT---- It seems that a ---J--- tagged onto the end of a name means he was a "Juror" :-)
