Well what can I say,except thanks again for all your help in sorting things out because I failed to realise that there was a Edward Horner as well as an Eli.However,I can confirm that the Eli Benjamin Horner was in fact the great uncle that I was trying to trace,and that the details on the image details were correct.

Right I have found two images for the man Chris has found but both only refer to 'E Horner'.

Not Eli then Chris, both the images I have are for service number 613 that must be Edward.

'Guards' rang bells....

From the NA guide 'British Army soldiers up to 1913: further research'

"Records of the Guards regiments (Coldstream, Grenadier, Irish, Scots and Welsh Guards) are accessible by writing to the Guards Regimental Headquarters, Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London SW1E 6HQ. Some of these records were destroyed by enemy bombing whilst stored in the Guards chapel during the Second World War."

Have tried all the above siteswithout any success. I have got the following info.from "Find my past" of the person I am looking for:-
Eli Benjamin HORNER,d.o.b.1871,served in the Boer War 1899-1902, as a private 613 in the coldstream guards,1st.&2nd.bats. Roll No.164 & 318,national archives WO 100 series.
The roll numbers are for medals awarded.

If it is relating to ww1 can it not be found via Ancestry - Just a thought
