http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e001929586.pdf
[1911 addy=T13 R6 W4 - no section # given]

Seems like Wilson homesteaded his quarter section (160 acres) just outside Medicine Hat

A look up at:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/western-land-grants/001007-100.01-e.php

Part Section Township Range Meridian
SE 14 13 6 W4
Reference:
Volume: 540
Folio: 398
Microfilm reel number: C-6367
Names: Wilson Riley

LIBER DATES REEL NUMBER
540 March 26, 1913 - March 31, 1913 C-6367-C-6368
I presume this was when letters patent (i.e., title) were granted, rather than when the claim was filed.

A look up of Medicine Hat at
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/post-offices/001001-100.01-e.php
gets - Sec. 31, Twp.12, R. 5, W4M

So a S14SE T13 R6 W4 addy would be 3 miles N, and 2 miles W, of Medicine Hat.

For 1916, look up district=Medicine Hat subdistrict#=16 - you want division C pages 24-25 of 34, at:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1916/001100-100.01-e.php
[addy=146 2nd St W - he's moved into town, and is back to working as a stone cutter]

You can look him up in the city directories at:
http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/bibliography/3895.html
[He was at 146 W 2nd in 1914 - I didn't look in other years]

Good one, Christina!
No wonder I couldn't find it, both names mis-spelled!
Edit: I see why the writing is horrible! He seems to be alone, heading to Winnipeg.

Riley CRT NW & Park
(Northwest Crescent Heights)

Wilson Riley was born in Halifax, England in 1887 and emigrated to Canada in 1907, arriving in Medicine Hat to work as a stonemason on the old Post Office. He hired on as a brakeman on the CPR in 1916 and worked there until 1953 when he retired as a conductor.

Wilson was elected to City council as an alderman in 1947 and served for two terms. He then was elected as mayor in 1950, serving in that capacity for two years.

I have just spotted a tree on Ancestry that states he arrived in Canada in 1907.

Plus he is not on the 1911 census.
