Robert Report 10 Mar 2012 20:49

Hi, I'm trying to find any information about Elizabeth Hope
born in Mar. quarter of 1860 in Deptford.
She was the youngest daughter of Thomas Hope and
Elysabeth Caroline Bowden, she appears in the 1861
census but after that I can find no other record.
In 1869 her mother died and Thomas Hope and one of
his sons Frederick appear in the 1871 census for Elswick
in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne .
Any help in finding out what became of her would be
appreciated.
Thanks
Bob

Hello Robert, and welcome to the boards.

What searches have you done to find Elizabeth? - have you checked out possible deaths, or checked if she's with any relatives and recorded under their name?

Hi Glitterbaby, yes that is the correct family, I've found the following
children in 1871 James Henry as Henry but he is alone, I have not
found Thomas but he is around in 1881 now married with his new
family and I think I've found Jane Ann Hope in 1871 but will not
know until monday when I can check the census for her.
I have searched for her Elizabeth's death between 1861 and 1871
and even looked for any marriage after 1878 but nothing fits her
criteria.
Thanks for your reply
Bob

Hi Glitterbaby, I have printed out your data on Jane A Hope
and as it happens I've the Northumberland Cenus for 1871.
Printing out the census I see that this Jane A was born in Surrey
but the Jane A from the above family was born in Stratford in
east london.
I don't think it is the correct one but I have her married in 1879
and she is in all the census reports from 1881 until 1911 under
her married name living in Newcastle upon Tyne.
So now that is three of the 1861 family who are missing from
the 1871 census John Thomas, Jane Ann and Elizabeth Hope,
I wonder what happened to them.

Hi Christina, I think you've got her as I have the census report
for James Henry Bowden Hope in 1881 and missing from his
census is his son Joseph Henry Bowden Hope born in the
Dec. quarter of 1876 and of course he would be nephew to
any married brother or sister of James.
I will print out the data you've supplied so that I can get the correct
sheet, and will look for her in later census reports now I know
where to look for her.
Many thanks to all for your help, it is much appreciated.

Hi Ozibird, I see that you have supplied the census data for
1891 and 1901 of the Nelson family and that saves me a lot
of time on monday morning.
I will use this information to find out why Elizabeth is missing
from the 1901 census tomorrow as I'm closing down for the
night and will look again in the morning.
Thanks to you for your help as well

By John Thomas, is that the Thomas born Derby on 1861?

This looks like Henry from 1861.
