Just to say that the one John George Danby listed as such of about the right age was born in Thornaby in 1884 and married Charlotte Ann Seaton but died in 1914. Even if the son's marriage certificate in 1936 did not show him as deceased, there are many examples of the word "deceased" being omitted from the details of the groom's father.

If this John George Danby is correct, then his son would not have known him, and may not have known his father's occupation (although it is also possible that he changed from bricklayer to miner and died in the mine? He is living in the right area to be a miner)

You could purchase the birth certificate that Jan found:

Births Mar 1913 (>99%)
Danby John E Danby Hartlepool 10a 323

but this might not give you the link you need.

Can you get access to the electoral rolls in the area for 1936 and backwards to 1913?

There are 3 Astill/Mawson births in co. Durham - 2 before the above marriage and 1 just after interestingly - so if you are truly desperate you could pursue this, though it's unlikely these family members will know much.

This could be that John's marriage:

Marriages Jun 1907 (>99%)
Stokesley 9d 1213
DANBY John
SEATON Charlotte Ann

Are there matching births? [Edit: I really meant are there any births with mother's maiden name Seaton after 1911, but Holly had already posted above and answered: no!] :-)

I found him in the 1911 Jan...

He appears to have married a Charlotte Seaton....

I can't see a John born with MMN Seaton though!

I assume his wife re-married, an unusual name isn't it, so he had presumably died by 1947. Doesn't help at all though does it.

Name: Melita A Danby
