Possible baptism for Charles snr (1851 census gives DOB 1781 and POB Hagbourne):

Charles Sayer
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening: 08 Feb 1782 HAGBOURNE,?BERKSHIRE,?ENGLAND
residence: Berkshire,? England
parents: John Sayer,? Elizabeth

I think it looks as if the family name started as Sayer and changed to Sawyer. The original parish records may have more info, such as an address or father's occupation.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Mar 2012 19:06

Sandy if you look further up I have already put Job's marriage up as it was in Islington to Jane Williams.

It is on my first post on your thread at 14.28pm.

On the 1851 census I put up Job is living with his brother Joseph and his wife. He then marries in Islington.

My Sayer family are from the Norfolk area. It was about 1786 that Thomas Sawer was born, however most of his children were registered as Sayer and since then they have been called Sayer. So maybe the same thing has happened on your family.

Edit

I see that you have the Brown and Sawyer family. My Sayer married a Brown in Mobberley Cheshire 1919 are they related to yours. :-S
