I am trying to find out more information about Thomas Wright born about 1836 in Great Yeldham Essex.

The information that I know of is he moved up to County Durham, married a woman called Agnes, and had daughters Harriet in Durham c1875, Louisa in Washington c1880, Dorothy in West Auckland b1887, Agnes in Washington b1887, Ethel in Netherton c1889, Polly in Netherton c1890, and Janet in Washington c1896.

According to the 1901 census they lived in Monkseaton, which is now North Tyneside.

I am related to Thomas by his daughter Agnes, but I would love to find out Thomas family prior to moving to the North East of England.

Any information would be great.

I have both of those girls on my tree, sisters to Agnes my great grandmother.

According to the 1901 census Janet is married to James Reid from Scotland, not much information to go on with.

I have also found out that Thomas & Agnes Wright had 14 children, 2 of them are boys.

The other information I have found out from the 1881/1891 census is that Thomas had his birth place as Topperfield Essex in 1851, compared to the 1901 census he had Grait Yeldham, Halstead, Essex in 1836.

Hello Barbz, do you have a Marriage for Thomas and Agnes, so we have his fathers name (hopefully, if on there!) to help on 1841, or childrens Birth certs. to get maiden name of Agnes, to look for Marriage?...

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think he may have married Agnes in County Durham as that is where she is from, or even Yorkshire. I have looked on www.familysearch.org to find out information of her maiden name etc but I have yet to discover this.

For the Mothers Maiden name Barbz, you need a Birth Cert. of one of the children, these should be on below link...

I have checked the http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl website that you recommended, but they do not reveal the mothers maiden name before 1912 (Panic stations, hehe)

I have sent messages to those who may have a connection to the Wright family.....watch this space :-)

I have sent messages to those who are have similiarities to my tree, and I have received one reply already so has given me information. It appears Thomas moved from Essex to the North East to improve his wage prospects, and there are still family down in Essex to this day who are related to him.

Mary Mitson was the first wife, then Agnes Armstrong was the second.

I have found with help from someone who has a connection to my tree, that Thomas Wright was born in 1849 in Toppersfield Essex.

His siblings are Emma Wright 1847-1881 and Caroline Wright 1852-c1923. His mother is Lydia Wright c1826-1857 born around the Toppersfield/Great Yeldham area.

How can I find out who the father of Thomas and his siblings is, especially if they are legitimate?

Lydia Wright and her siblings are Harriet c1828-c1891 and William c1831. Their parents are Joseph Wright c1796-c1857 and Harriet Jarvis c1797-c1831.

Josephs siblings are William 1793, Elizabeth c1791-1792, Sarah 1789 and George 1788-1850 all born in Essex. Their parents are George Wright c1764 and Mary Broad c1764, again born in Essex.

Any help is grateful :-D
