Thank your for the extra month's membership - it is appreciated. As somebody else has said, it was nice to see the boards so busy.

Lady Kira - I am sorry, I didn't realise how late it was! Good news about the Ottaway thread.

Thanks to you all for your feedback about the message boards. I'll be passing all your comments on. We do realise how special our message boards are and we really tried to emphasise that to people last weekend. And we know that the boards woulnd't be as good without all of your help.

Thank you for the membership extension.

I did not get chance to help out over the weekend. But comments...The GR boards are invaluable for help. I have solved several family problems with help from the members on the boards. However, I feel that many many members do not use GR as their main source of information - I certainly don't. And yet any mention of "other" sources in one's help are censured with - tbh - offensive censorious warnings. My membership is up for renewal end of this month....I have considered seriously whether I want to continue or not such has been the attitude nof GR. I have also considered seriously renewing and being a taker rather than a giver such has been the attitude of GR..... :-|

A big thank you from me too Katie for my free months membership.

I also enjoy helping others and as someone else said the boards have been quite slow lately.

Always willing to help others if I can.

Thank you and GR for showing your appreciation of those GR members who help others via the message boards.

In some respects the increased activity created by WDYTYALive at the weekend reminded me of the situation 2/3 years ago when, prior to the message board reorganisation, the boards were much busier. It was then that I first began to try to help those who posted their queries/requests on the boards. It was a two way exercise because by helping others I was, at the same time, honing my own research skills.

From my point of view its message boards are GR's greatest asset. Even by just reading them GR members can learn a great deal about how to approach their research by discovering how others with similar situations to their own have resolved matters. Although the GR site gives access to some records they obviously do not cover everything or every situation. Through the message boards GR members can often find links to other sites that might just be able to provide the key to unlock the door or the hammer to knock down the brick wall. A great deal of the genealogy knowledge that I now possess was gained through reading other peoples messages.

Hi Joy - if the post has been made using the WDYTYA Live log in then we aren't able to contact the person we posted for. This is because we don't have their log in details. We did tell everyone how to check for responses though once they got home.
It is lovely to hear that some of you have been receiving PMs from people you have helped.
I was posting for Anne Upton and she'd never used the message boards before despite being a member of Genes for a while. She was amazed at how quick and helpful the responses were. In the time we were chatting at the show she had already received several replies.
On a personal note, Lady Kira stopped by to say hello and it was really lovely to meet her. We ended up chatting for ages :-)
