	a Dorothy Laing on 1851 census but for the life of me cannot spot her. She was born 1834/5 Byker, Northumberland. She married in 1858 so should be somewhere - presumably as a single girl - in 1851. I have traced her - I think - on 1841 census. However, as 1841 gives little information, I have not yet worked out who's who on the 1841. It said Ann 1816, Dorothy 1834, Elizabeth 1781, James 1826, John 1771, Margaret 1816 and Thomas 1832, so I am assuming the parents are John & Elizabeth and the rest offspring. If anyone has the time, could someone please have a look at the 1851 to try and locate Dorothy ? Thank you.

	Thank you everyone for your help. Reggie - we must both have found the bapt of Dorothy giving parents William & Margaret about the same time. Also the 1841 you suggested is in fact the one I had previously found. Anyway, I do appreciate all your help.

Member Since: July 2005 Posts: 10,997 Send Message	THe 2 1851 census posted are the same person, the national archive references are the same, but the original is difficult to read - FMP gives Dixon as head of family and I have copied the whole transcript, whereas Mel has given you the main information from her source. Mel has also given you Young Laings christening - A possible christening for ? sibling Margaret b 10.9.1810 and ch 26.5.1811 Newburn, Northumberland has parents as John Laing and Elizabeth Young
