Misty....Can you check the actual image for 1881 I dont have access...

I can tell you that a Mrs Jane Downey was listed in 1891 Trade Directory for that address....so possibly the 1881 (Family Search census is wrong..)

How can Jane be down as Widow (1871)...?
Edward didnt die until 1874...

But....? I thought 1881 was just an error?

Misty...This will confuse you even more...!!! No "Jane"...James is a widower as you can see....The James aged 17 corresponds with the James aged 27 1891...

Looking back over the thread (29th Feb) you have "Edward" living with g.mother.......was that in B.Head..??? (1891) and Eliz and Mary back in England 1892...what month..???
Well Edward was living with his parents 1892 Census Brooklyn....

Sorry have been away for a few day's.....

Eringobragh...Elizabeth and Walter were in USA when 1891 census was taken, Elizabeth arrived back in England with 7yr old Mary in 1892. Edward was living with his Grandma in 1891.

I didn't know about Thomas and Johanna Muldowney...how odd, thank you very much will follow them up...

I don't know if Mary Downey ever used a middle name, nor if the Mary in 1901 census (convent) is mine for sure.

Jax...Mary did go to USA in 1009 as Downey and married Thomas McCormack (born Ireland) in 1914 in Denver

As Mary went to America as Downey in 1909 that marriage could not have been hers anyway ...but could not be asked to delete it :-D

1920 census indicates that both Mary and Thomas claimed to have been naturalised in 1917.

??????? This is a Mary with mother (aged 50). Mary b England, mother Ireland. Maids in a hotel. Last known address Seacombe ? Devon. EDIT also a Seacombe in Cheshire.

Cross referencing on site has in 1920 and 1930 a Mary with a Thomas but her dob is way out. With Children Elizabeth, Alice, Dennis and Dorothy

There is also an incoming in 1891 with mother Elizabeth.
