Find Ancestors

Both are Scottish but married in London in June 1860. This information is from the birth of their 3rd child Agnes Bryden Rogerson in Applegarth Dumphriesshiire Scotland, on 16 Feb 1866. Given by the Grandmother Ellen Bryden.
I have looked at findmypast, freebdm, Ancestry,St.Catherine's Marriages,
Does anyone know if there are records for marriages in a Church of Scotland in London about that time, and where I can access them from Australia. I have been searching for this for years so any information however small would be very welcome . thank you Tricia

How do you know they married in June 1860?

My first thought is they said they married, but actually they didnt.,London would have been a heck of a way to go to marry in 1866

Yes I have looked at freeBMD, from 1859 to 1887.
My husband has a cousin in Edinburgh, and she very kindly looked at Registry House for us, but she only found the birth of two children in Scotland,, and on the second registration was the information that the parents had been married in June 1860 in London.Unfortunately she has not been able to find any marriage.

Looking at the 1871 Census, they seemed to move back and forwards from London area and Scotland!


The eldest child Ellen was born 1862, Stratford, Essex

John in 1864, Scotland

Agnes 1866, Scotland

Catherine 1869, Bromley, Middlesex

William 1870, Bromley





but it could be that they did not in fact marry!

It does seem very strange that they went to London, I haven't been able to work that out yet
I have their death certificates, but our cousin has been unable to find any marriage in Scotland.
Catherine was on her own in London because William was a mariner on the 61/71/81 cencuses. The first child Helen (Ellen) was born at Stratfield, West Ham,. the second John Gibson and the third Agnes Bryden were born at Applegarth Scotland, the other 4 were born at Bromley Middlesex. They came to Australia in 1887, but I have been unable to find any marriage for them here.

I also wonder what a marriners wife is doimng slap bang in the middle of Middlesex. Strange place to be.

That has always made me wonder, I always thought something fishy was going on. I am not convinced they did marry in London, but am searching all possible places.
