Poplar would be the nearest but that reg is for a William Harold. Possibly his birth was not registered or could be missing from the index. As you have his DOB from his baptism and are pretty sure of his mother's maiden name, it might be worth contacting Islington Registrar's Office to see if they can find it.

Ok think I've updated all my info! So i have from the Baptism records that my great grandfather william was baptised march 1891, and born march 12th 1891. I've had a look on freeBMD but there is no Islington districts only - Christchurch, Basingstoke,Wincanton, Poplar, Dartford, Ashford and Cardiff.

Would anyone have any ideas if these could be the right area for the birth? As he was baptised in Islington?

I'd like to get the birth certificate if poss eventually.

Me and my mum have got quite stumped on one side of our family that we are working on and in their eyes the most important being their family name Sims!

The William Sims we are looking for (as there are a few in our family) was born approx 1891 and he is my great granfather on my mother' Christine's father's side.

I don't know how early you want information on my family from but I can start on the exacts of my grandfather and if you require any information more present please tell me as I'm unsure how near to the present info you need.

Ok the exact info I have.

My grandfather was born in 1920 Islington to William and Katherine (nee Trowbridge) Sims. He was an only child, we believe he did have an older sister but she died as a baby. My grandfather then went on to marry Dorothy Dismon on 26/06/1945, his father William had died before the wedding. They then went on to have 6 children which included my Mother.

My grandfather William was a member of the Navy and in 1941 was granted leave to return to attend his father William Sims' funeral which I believe I have found on record as 1941 Islington - (1b 162)

On my grandfather's marriage certificate to Dorothy it does indicate his father was deceased and indicated no middle name.

I have then found my great grandfather William Sims' marriage to Katherine Trowbridge - 12/10/1913 in Islington and have the marriage certificate which states his father as Arthur Frederick George Sims whose occupation was Music String Maker, and again gives William no middle name.

I then began looking on the census and found in 1901 the following:

However when I have looked at the 1891 census the years some of the family were born slightly differ and as the census I understand was taken in a different time of year to the 1901 census I believe because of birthdays etc this may be slightly inaccurate which is where I am struggling to find the birth of my great grandfather.

I also looked at the 1911 census and found another child named Minnie born 1904, and that Arthur Sims (my great great grandfather) was named as George:

I want to basically find William Sims' birth certificate as this is where we are struggling as there are several births around the time we believe he was born. We recently took a punt at William G Sims born in March 1891 but this is not the correct on as his father is Charles and his mother is Elizabeth.

I can't find one of the Census images my mother images I found, but it gave a lady named Mary Bevan/Beavin who she believed was possibly Caroline's mother and so her maiden name would be Bevan/Beavin.

Basically I want to confirm William Sims my great grandfather's birth and his siblings, and to also begin finding information about Arthur Sims.

I believe Sims can often be spelt incorrectly, even as 'Sines' on one website. And Arthur Frederick George Sims can often be referred to as Frederick or George as well as Arthur to make things more confusing!

If I haven't given enough please ask, I think I've put down everything I have!
