1861 census - look up Arthur J. Bryant, born 1815 age 45. He lives at 15 Ferdinant Street, Pancras.
He has a wife, Sarah b 1819.
A son ....... I always thought perhaps it was Sadler, He was born 22 April 1852, but I cannot find his death, nor find him on the 1871 census, in fact he is a complete mystery.
Can anyone help me solve this long outstanding problem
Many thanks
Jo

Pam

Yes, that is the birth record, but I cannot find anymore about him i.e. his 1971 census or his death. If the birth has been registered as that, I feel it must be right, but cannot tie up his further moves.
Many thanks for your help

Choccy and Andrew

Thank you for Sadler's birth/Baptism record.
Whats interesting is that Choccy yours reads Sadler John Boyant (Bryant) and Andrew yours reads Sadler James Brgant!!

Perhaps he did not like the name Sadler, discarded it and just used James or John Bryant. That will be more difficult to find.

Many thanks to both of you for your help

I have this from FreeBMD - it may be of use if you do not already have it ?

Arthur Bryant married Sarah Gifford on 5th August at the Parish of St. George, Bloomsbury,
Middx. Full age. Shoemaker. Father Robert Bryant, also shoemaker.
Sarah of full age, Servant, father Sadler Gifford, Bricklayer. Both of 2 Let Rupell St.

Arthur Bryant and his wife Sarah died in 1861 and 1870 respectively, so were not on the 1871 census.
The 2nd child Jessie has also died in 1862.
The 4th child died in 1861.
This only leaves Sadler, who I have found in the 1861 census and Ozibird might have found Caroline in the 1871 census. Will check that one out.
Thank you for your help

Yes, I had found Caroline on the 1871 census, but then the trail on her goes cold.

Its so annoying when you cannot quite tidy up a family.

Many thanks for your help

Sorry for the delay in replying. That is one thing I have not checked out to see whether Sadler John/James Bryant went to Canada or elsewhere abroad.
Likewise Caroline Sarah Bryant might have gone after 1871, as I can find little about her other than buying lots of Death Certificates to find the right Caroline!!

I will look up the emigration lists later tonight.

Many thanks for your help
