AHH yes I can see by the maps that its south of the Thames . I am not familiar with that area. I did Google though for mileage from Colliers Wood to the reg areas for deaths I found and these are correct so she could have died in one .or none! ,of the areas Barnet had a big main hospital which could be a possibility , depends how much how you want to keep buying certs though.

Thats the downside of this kind of research, it costs!

I had a relative born and lived in NY....couldnt find a death and put it down to the fact that US records are hit and miss, depending on the state that you are researching..........found him in the end.....died in the UK!

If Elizabeth was sick, she may have gone far and wide to an appropriate hospital, might be worth a shot at the death I posted

You wont get hosptial listings from anywhere, Ive been down that route before and was told by the authorities that records are destroyed after a certain period........thats two of mine that got away :-(

Hi Ginns or Ginny as you were called in 2010.As you have found my original post from 2010.All the stuff you generated then, enabled me to trace Elizabeth Biddy Spencers family/ancesters back for several generations. I am now hoping to complete the puzzle by locating her final resting place.
Having already bought 3 incorrect death certificates for possible Elizabeths from the area around Colliers wood ne surrey even Lambeth I do not want to sample more on the off chance. My wife's sister born in 1945 says she remembers Elizabeth living opposite them in Boundary road Colliers wood and seems to think some tragedy befell Elizabeth which resulted in her going into a hospital ,possibly permenently. If I could examine the names of patients in nearby long stay hospitals i would be one step nearer.
Earlier when tracing Elizabeths grand father I found him in a Kingston hospital/workhouse but cannot remember how I did it.
There was a large hospital for the infirm at Tooting called Springfield, how could I make contact with them?

I have never been successful in finding hospital records ! lots would have been destroyed especially if hospitals merged

Peter Report 2 Feb 2012 16:24

Thanks Shirley. You're right it can be expesive at £10 a certificate.I have already bought 3 wrong ones.Tottenham and Ealing are north of the Thames, I think.
I am not sure where Barnet is.
I feel she was possibly in a hospital in the Colliers wood, Tooting area;south of the Thames and as her relatives also lived south of the Thames. Is it possible to check on records of patients names resident in hospitals There was maybe still is a hospital in the Tooting area called Springfield or Saint Georges;would it be possible for me to find if there was an Elizabeth there
