I am try to find Jemima Kings maiden name.
Jemima married Nicholas King around 1808/9
probably around the Albourne,Sussex area.
Jemima was born 1788 and died 1875.
Nicholas was born 1781 and died 1861
They had a daughter,Louisa who married James William Comber.
From that point on I have a complete history of the Comber family.
Jemima is proving elusive.
Any input will be appreciated.
Cheers Kevin C, Perth Australia

There are six family trees elsewhere including yours that have exactly the same information showing. Jemima marrying Nicholas King, with your dates, and no further information. Same place.

I found the census details of the family from 1841 onwards. Here are the parents and the children from the 1841 census

Name Age
......Nichols King 60
......Jemima King 50
Ester King 30
Charles King 23
George King 21
Emas King 17
Nichols King 19
.......Louisa King 15
David King 13
Ann King 9
Elizabeth King 6

This is for info purposes because you say you have a complete history from Louisa's marriage.

Name: Jemima Goodman
Spouse: Hy Dart
Marriage Date: 1804
Parish: St. Mary Aldermanbury

Think Jemima Goodman married Hy Dart in either 1804 or 1806.

The new LDS search site has everyone of the children's births listed with father as Nicholas King and mother as "Jemima". Elusive does not begin to describe her!! This is the example for Louisa.

Looking at the actual parish record Jemima Goodman who married Henry Dart in 1804 was a widow

Noted the image is not available. You might have to request the film and take a look at it yourself. It is one option which will tell you if her maiden name was recorded. It seems really odd that for all those children she is only registered as Jemima and there does not seem to be a marriage. Well not between Jemima and Nicholas King.

Thanks all for the input.
I'd like to think that K has found the Jemima i am after but obviously i will have to keep looking some more to verify.
Aunty Sherlock, you wrote Goodman and K wrote Godman, was yours a typo?
At least Godman is a starter for more research better than no surname when looking for females from a past era.

Only a thought though............................

So if Jemima Go(o)dman who married Henry Dart in 1804 was a widow, her first marriage would have been to Thomas Go(o)dman in 1783. So she would have been born Jemima Barnes.

All of which gets Kevin absolutely no where but does however rule out that Jemima. I think.

Kevin have you ever asked the LDS to provide the film of the registers so you could look at it. I have recently been through this and ended up proving an Edward Banser was actually a mistranscribed Edward Ranger. It might be that the record of Jemima's birth name is very difficult to read or has been obscured in some way. As a last resort it might be worth taking a look. Remember the parish record is probably the definitive proof of her name. The only other places it will appear is on her birth/baptism. Census records are out because she was married by the time the records started. Checking each of the children's birth records might also be a possibility.

Forgive me if you have already been there done that and I am suggesting training and development in egg sucking!!

Been looking with no success tried several A***** options but zilch results. Have you tried the oft mentioned, "search trees" on this site. I did and there is a smattering of Nicholas King types born in Sussex around 1779. If you have not looked might be worth a query of those what have him.

Thanks Aunty Sherlock.
I did try search trees and came up with the same info that I already have.
Jemima is proving to be very elusive but I will keep looking.
More info is being added daily so it is only a matter of time and I will find her.
Cheers Kevin
