Sorry for the delay in replying. I got my Dad's birth certificate and it confirmed that his parents were Eddie Hallas and Annie Smith.

I am a little unsure of how to proceed from here.

www.gro.gov.uk using the refs posted .
It will give his parents names so you will know if the other info found ar the right family

Hi, my name is Tracey Hallas and I am trying to find my father's family. His name is Douglas and was born in Hudderfield Dec 1944, registered jan/feb/mar 1945. His mother's maiden name was Smith, I believe she died either in child birth or soon after. My dad has numerous siblings, but due to him being in a children's home I am unable to find enough details plus Hallas appears to be a popular name in the Yorkshire area. He does have a brother called Rex and a sister called Kathleen.
